I commissioned this piece a while back from sethkiel on Twitter. Rarely do more than lurk on tumblr, but I figured I may as well post it here for the smugpunch believers
i have naturally acidic sweat. it’s a family thing
we have already. They don’t know exactly what is up with it, other than the sweat being slightly more acidic than normal and the acidic mantle being thicker and Way more acidic than normal, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with acidosis. As far as we have tested, our family has had this since at least my great grandpa, and the guy lived to be 93 years old.
“The adult buzzard is strickingly plumaged and arguably one of the most "handsome” buzzards" - Wiki
Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, especially rodents. They will also hunt snakes, lizards, and ground-feeding birds such as sandgrouse or gamebirds. They will also eat carrion, but appear to be more submissive than other scavengers and will wait until those animals have left before taking some for themselves.
Short-tailed Pygmy-tyrant Propaganda
“small. hilarious name-bird combo”
“the smallest bird in the world after several species of hummingbirds. Naming this beast a "tyrant” is the funniest thing ever. Also I’m tail-shaming it" (for reference: tyrant refers to the family this bird belongs to- tyrant flycatchers, which are named after kingbirds)
“Although its plumage is similar to some other tyrant flycatchers, in the field the bird is more often mistaken for a large beetle or insect, especially while in flight… Its flight movements have a mechanical-feel that enhances the insect comparison.” - Wiki
People don’t like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn’t be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they’re basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.
Like it’s just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like “we’re using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can” and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.
Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.
Go read Awful Hospital by @bogleech I am not joking when I say it’s the closest thing I’ve seen to homestucks’s level of interactivity and willingness to break it’s own format that isn’t itself a direct fan-project of homestuck.
(except of course 17776, I guess, but I have been saying the above to anyone who would listen since long before 17776 hit the scene.)
Funny enough I have never read Homestuck and have only the vaguest idea of what it’s like. Awful Hospital’s format was most inspired by Rubyquest!
Still getting through Worm but one thing I gotta say is that if I could control insects at a distance, and even perceive through their senses, I wouldn’t mess around with a costume and learning to fight and stuff. I think I’d just always stay as far away from the situation as I can get away with.
I also knew already from fandom posts that this was another of those series where there’s a really popular non-canon ship and sometimes I don’t really see it or it’s not my thing but in this case it feels so blatantly written like a growing romantic subplot that I’m just increasingly flabbergasted to know that it’s not going there. Really?? Are you for real? I’m only in the beginnings of them warming up to each other but you’re telling me THIS dynamic is going to be platonic at best for as long as both characters are alive? What?
The THEMING they could have as a duo is even right there!!!!
Wildbow protagonists by how believable it is that they are cisgender and heterosexual
Lucy - actually completely believably both cis and straight
Sy - he doesn’t entirely come off as cis or straight but I could still buy that he is both.
Blake - on the one hand there’s no way he’s cis but you could argue given the circumstances of his creation the terms cis and trans just don’t apply to him
Verona - her attraction to guys is believable but she reads as bi
Victoria - at a stretch you could argue that her everything with Ashley is because Ashley is extremely into her and that Vicky is an oblivious straight girl
Taylor -100% comes across as a lesbian deeply in denial who has convinced herself she’s straight
Avery - canonically gay
It is fucking wild how much the male gaze alters how POV characters are seen.
